Trained to read systems. Drawn to the people inside them.

Mel Stagg studied modern German literature before spending many years as a strategic communications consultant — work that meant reading complex social systems for a living: their tensions, their unspoken rules, the gap between what people say and what they mean.

She has started to do what the systems never quite allowed until she took her first sabbatical: tell the stories of the people inside them. She is currently writing her debut novel.

Mel Stagg lives and writes in Germany.

Mystery creates desire. Facts create boredom.

No black and white. No verdicts. The in-between tones are where readers find themselves.

Quiet stories for loud times.

Mel Stagg's interest lies in psychological depth and sensory detail — in characters readers can step into rather than judge from a distance.

Her fiction asks what the great transformation of our society feels like from the inside — not as headline or forecast, but as a Tuesday in someone's life, a few years from now.
